Ban Dok Bua Community : A model of Sufffiiciency Living

Ban Dok Bua (Ban Bua), originally a forest, was later owned by 2 families, Grandpa

Tib and Grandma Somana, along with another unknown grandpa’s house. They were
farmers from Ban Tun Klang who discovered the land’s incredible abundance and
decided to settle in Ban Dok Bua, later joined by Grandpa Bua. Unfortunately, one day,
while Grandpa Bua was chewing betel nuts and gathering betel leaves, he fell victim to a

fatal tiger attack. As a result, the villagers named the place Ban Bua (Dok Bua) in memory
of him, and this name endures to this day.
Ban Dok Bua, located in Ban Tun sub-district, Mueang district, Phayao, has
achieved an Outstanding Award for Honoring Community Development Network Leader

Project by committing to sufficiency economy practices - “Live well, Be happy”. It also
won the Outstanding Award for the Self-reliant Village on a provincial level in 2551 B.E.
(A.D. 2008). The village headman was also distinguished as the Outstanding Headman
of the Year in the same year. The group of basket weavers was also recognized for

their outstanding work, earning the runner-up award under the Honoring Community
Development Network Leader Project for its dedication to sufficiency economy practices-
“Live well, Be happy” in 2551 B.E. (A.D. 2008). In 2552 B.E. (A.D. 2009), Ban Dok Bua was
chosen as a prototype of a sufficiency economy village, being named as “Prosperous

บ้านดอกบัว (บ้านบัว) แต่เดิมเป็นป่า มีปู่ติ๊บกับย่าสมนาสองผัวเมีย และมีบ้านปู่อีกคนไม่ทราบชื่อ
โดยเริ่มแรกมีบ้านอยู่สองหลังเท่านั้น ปู่ติ๊บกับย่าสมนา เป็นคนบ้านตุ่นกลางประกอบอาชีพท�าไร่ท�าสวน
เลี้ยงสัตว์ เห็นพื้นที่ป่าแห่งนี้มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์เหมาะกับการประกอบอาชีพจึงย้ายเข้ามาอยู่เป็นคนแรก

ปู่บัวก็ได้ติดตามมาอยู่ด้วย จนตอนเช้าของวันหนึ่งปู่บัวซึ่งเป็นคนเคี้ยวหมากได้ลงไปเก็บใบพลู อยู่ ๆ ก็มี
เสือมาตะครุบและกัดปู่บัวจนตาย ณ ที่นั้น ชาวบ้านจึงตั้งชื่อว่า บ้านบัว (ดอกบัว) มาจนทุกวันนี้

ผู้ใหญ่บ้านดีเด่นประจ�าปี 2551 อีกทั้งกลุ่มจักสานเข่ง ได้รับรางวัลรองชนะเลิศประเภทกลุ่มอาชีพดีเด่น
