คือการท�าบุญอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้แก่ผู้ล่วงลับหรือสังฆทาน นิยมปฏิบัติกันตั้งแต่เดือน 12 เหนือ

ถึงเดือนย่เหนือ หรือต้งแต่เดือนกันยายน ถึงเดือนตุลาคมของทุกปี เล่ากันว่า คร้งพุทธกาล
พระบรมโพธิสัตว์พร้อมพระสาวกได้เดินทางจาริกแสวงบุญ ตลอดระยะเวลาได้มีศรัทธาญาติโยมนา

อาหารคาวหวานมาถวาย ญาติโยมเหล่าน้นแต่ละคนมีฐานะแตกต่างกันคนท่มีฐานะดีก็นาอาหาร

อย่างดีมาถวาย ส่วนคนที่มีฐานะยากจนก็น�าอาหารเท่าที่หามาได้มาท�าบุญ ท�าให้เกิดความเหลื่อมล�้า
ในหมู่สงฆ์ที่รับถวาย พระพุทธองค์พิจารณาเห็นดังนั้น จึงบัญญัติวิธีการให้พระสงฆ์จับสลากรับถวาย
ประเพณีลอยกระทง (ประเพณียี่เป็ง) อาหารจากญาติโยม ซึ่งเป็นวิธีการที่ยุติธรรมและความพอใจให้แก่ทุกฝ่าย และได้ปฏิบัติสืบทอดกันมา
ตรงกับวันเพ็ญเดือนยี่เหนือ (เดือนพฤศจิกายน) ประเพณีนี้มี 2 วันคือ วันขึ้น 15 ค�่า เดือนยี่ Tan Kuay Salak Ritual
